Japanese team explores green energy ties with Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: A delegation from Japan's Yamanashi Prefecture met with Uttar Pradesh officials on Wednesday to discuss investment and collaboration, particularly in the area of green energy. The three-day visit aims to strengthen ties between Yamanashi and Uttar Pradesh and deepen India-Japan cooperation.

The discussions focused on sectors including green hydrogen, renewable energy, infrastructure, tourism, and hospitality. On the first day, the delegation engaged with the energy department and UPNEDA (Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency) to explore cooperation in clean energy and sustainable development.

The Yamanashi delegation, which included Narendra Upadhyay, advisor to the Prefectural government, and representatives from Kanadevia Corporation and Kinki Nippon Tourist Company, shared their views. Uttar Pradesh officials, including Additional Chief Secretary Narendra Bhooshan and UPNEDA Director Inderjeet Singh, presented the state's green energy roadmap, with a specific emphasis on green hydrogen initiatives.


The delegation outlined its vision for collaboration. "The Yamanashi delegation outlined its vision for collaboration, stating that Yamanashi Prefecture would contribute advanced technological know-how, while Kanadevia would bring expertise in green hydrogen production, along with technology transfer and technical support," a spokesperson stated.

The Japanese group also showed interest in the Uttar Pradesh Green Hydrogen Policy 2024, which includes plans for pilot projects, infrastructure, and an investor-friendly framework. The possibility of collaboration on two proposed Centres of Excellence, to be led by IIT-BHU and IIT Kanpur, was also discussed.
