An earthquake of intensity 4.7 on the Richter scale struck near Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir early on Monday, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said.

The tremor hit at 5:35 a.m. IST on February 2, 2026, at a shallow depth of 10 km, with its epicentre located at latitude 34.14° N and longitude 74.41° E, close to Baramulla town in the Kashmir Valley.

According to the NCS, the quake was recorded as magnitude 4.7.


There were no immediate reports of major damage or casualties from local authorities in the early hours of the day.
