Jammu and Kashmir SIA conducts raids at 14 places in terrorism funding case

The State Investigation Agency (SIA) carried out raids at about 14 locations in Kashmir Valley on Saturday in connection with a militancy funding case.

The agency said 14 houses and business premises of suspects in Srinagar, Sopore, Baramulla and Shopian districts were searched, in compliance to a search warrant obtained from a special judge designated under the NIA Act, regarding a case registered earlier this year.

"Continuing to rein in the financial networks of terror outfits with a purpose of destroying its ecosystem and support structure of terrorism completely... the case pertains to financial networks of terror outfits operating in valley," said an SIA spokesman.


According to the agency, the case was registered on the basis of reliable information that a group of alleged overground workers of militant organisations, in connivance with and active support from their Pakistan-based handlers, including militants who had exfiltrated from the Valley and were now based in Pakistan, were arranging logistics support. This included channelling finances with the overall objective of furthering and sustaining militant activities in J&K in order to destabilize the Union of India by clandestinely waging war, said the SIA. During the searches officials claim that incriminating material, electronic gadgets, mobile phones, bank documents and other articles having bearing on the investigation have been recovered and seized.

"Analysis of the data would follow and leads that would emerge would become the basis for further investigation. It is pertinent to mention here that the searches are aimed at dismantling the financial networks of the terrorist outfits," read the statement.
