Jammu and Kashmir LG Unveils cinema halls in Pulwama and Shopian

Jammu and Kashmir lieutenant governor (LG) Manoj Sinha on Sunday inaugurated multipurpose cinema halls in Pulwama and Shopian districts of southern Kashmir which will offer facilities including film screening, infotainment and skilling of youth.

Sinha termed it a historic day for the Union Territory dedicated to the youths of two districts who have waited long for this moment. The LG will also inaugurate the first of its kind multiplex in Srinagar on September 20.

“Cinema is a powerful creative medium which reflects culture, values and aspirations of the people. It opens the door to the world of knowledge, new discoveries and enables people to get a better understanding of each other’s culture," said Sinha.


The establishment of cinemas at district headquarters has been undertaken by the mission youth department in collaboration with the district administration. Cinema halls in Anantnag, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Doda, Rajouri, Poonch, Kishtwar and Reasi will be inaugurated soon.“J&K has a long association with the world of cinema.

The new film policy and facilities created have once again made J&K the favourite shooting destination and brought back the golden era of film-making in the UT," said Sinha
