Jaipur court awards nearly Rs 1 crore compensation to girl injured by fallen high-tension line in 2015

A Jaipur district court has directed Jaipur Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited to pay Rs 99 lakh to the family of a five-year-old girl whose arms were amputated after a high-tension power line fell on her in March 2015. The compensation, ordered on November 28, will cover the child’s ongoing treatment, rehabilitation, and future care, with specific provisions for its utilization.

Details of the compensation order

The court specified that the compensation amount will be deposited in a fixed deposit account. The accrued 6% annual interest, effective from 2016—the year the claim was filed—will be disbursed monthly to the girl’s family. These funds aim to address her immediate and long-term medical needs.

Additionally, when the girl turns 21, she will be allowed to withdraw Rs 25 lakh from the principal amount for her use. The remainder will continue to support her care and future requirements.

In his judgment, the presiding judge emphasized the significant and irreplaceable role of daughters in families. He noted that the compensation is intended to alleviate, to some extent, the irreversible harm caused by the incident.
