An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter Scale struck Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. The tremors were felt in the region around 12:26 PM, according to the National Center for Seismology.

Details of the Earthquake

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km. The National Center for Seismology reported the event with the following details: "EQ of M: 4.1, On: 12/07/2024 12:26:24 IST, Lat: 34.32 N, Long: 74.34 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir."

Earthquake in Canada

Earlier, on Thursday, a magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck Tofino, Canada, as reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). This quake occurred at a depth of 8 km and was centered about 130 miles from Tofino, a small district on Vancouver Island. The USGS noted that approximately 2,000 residents in Tofino may have experienced light shaking.


Timing and Aftermath

The rumbling in Canada was first detected shortly after 8 AM local time. Initially estimated at a magnitude of 6.5, the quake was later downgraded to 6.4. The USGS confirmed that there was no risk of a tsunami following the event.
