Bengaluru: Bengaluru South Lok Sabha member Tejasvi Surya (BJP) on Thursday said that promoting girls’ education and strengthening government schools in Bengaluru remain his priorities as he announced securing the CSR support from Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) for the development of Karnataka Public School (KPS) at Basavanagudi, in his constituency.

Established in 1903, KPS Basavanagudi is among Bengaluru’s oldest public educational institutions and currently educates more than 1,500 girl students, many of whom come from low-income families and are first-generation learners.

The CSR support will strengthen the school’s infrastructure and overall learning environment through CSR support, building on earlier development works undertaken at the institution.

Surya, speaking on the occasion, said, “Supporting girls’ education has always been a priority for me in Bengaluru. KPS Basavanagudi, with a legacy dating back to 1903, has played a transformative role in providing quality education to girls from economically underprivileged backgrounds.”

“With support secured from IOCL, we will be able to further strengthen this institution so that young girls studying here are empowered to shape their futures with confidence and self-reliance,” he added.

Over the years, the school has reported improvements in academic performance, student participation in sports and cultural activities, and overall enrolment. The institution has also received recognition for achievements by students and teachers across multiple fields, Surya said in a statement.

In the recently concluded public examinations, the school recorded improved SSLC and PUC results, with several students securing distinction and first-class marks. In the latest board examinations, Pallavi S secured 98% in EBACs, while Priyanka and Vasantha scored 96.3% in PCMB and HESP streams, respectively.

The proposed development works are expected to help transform KPS Basavanagudi into a model government institution with upgraded student facilities, modern classrooms and enhanced learning infrastructure.

The project is being implemented through Vidyanidhi Trust as part of ongoing efforts to improve educational infrastructure in Bengaluru South.

Surya, highlighting the broader vision behind the initiative, added, “Women’s empowerment is the cornerstone of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for governance. Investing in education and creating better opportunities for young girls is among the most meaningful ways to build a stronger society.”

The initiative is expected to further strengthen the learning ecosystem at KPS Basavanagudi and benefit future generations of students, the statement added.
