Protestors registered strong protests on Thursday against the kidnap and gang-rape of a college student.

The condition of the girl, who is undergoing treatment at the government-run Govind Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital, is stated to be "very critical".

A police spokesman said two accused Gautam Sharma and another accused Sudip Chetri were arrested.


He said that during the raid the involved vehicle and cash amount of Rs 90 lakh have been seized from the house of one of the accused persons Prasanjit Paul, who managed to flee before the search in his house.

The 20-year-old college student was kidnapped on Monday afternoon when she was returning from her college in the outskirts of Agartala.

BJP Tripura Pradesh General Secretary Papia Datta and the party’s Mohila Moracha leaders also visited the hospital to see the victim and demanded severe punishment for the culprits.
