Innovate, adopt best practices to tackle Covid: PM Modi to district magistrates

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded efforts of district magistrates in dealing with Covid-19 and advised them to innovate and adopt best practices to local needs. He also asked them to compile and share with him such actions so that other districts would benefit.

At a virtual interaction with DMs and state officials on Tuesday, Modi said they were like field commanders and should take decisions based on local challenges.

“If you feel there is a need to take innovative steps at the local level in the government plans, you should go ahead. If you feel it has proved beneficial to people, share it with me. Adopt whatever best practices are needed to fight Covid-19.” Modi said. He underlined that there should be no attempt to hide numbers and that the right information should be disseminated to the people. The whole district gets encouragement from the role played by the district magistrates, he said.


He suggested formation of local containment zones, aggressive testing and sharing correct and complete information about spread of the pandemic, the people affected, beds available and so on. These are the weapons that will help defeat the virus. While some districts have seen a fall in positive cases, others were witnessing a rise. In such a scenario, complacency can lead to a setback and DMs should be more vigilant, Modi said. “The fight is to save every single life and check the spread of the Covid-19,” Modi said.

There should be “more focus on rural and inaccessible areas”.
