In another distressing incident of online fraud, a 65-year-old man fell victim to a scam, losing over Rs 3 lakh after attempting to contact Swiggy's customer service for assistance with an undelivered order. The unfortunate event was disclosed by his son Nikhil Chawla, an influencer, on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram. Chawla recounted the entire ordeal through a video he shared on Instagram, detailing how his father's ordeal unfolded.
According to Chawla, his father placed an order with Swiggy, but after hours of waiting without receiving the delivery, he decided to seek help by calling what he thought was Swiggy's customer care number. He conducted a quick Google search and stumbled upon a number claiming to be Swiggy's call center. Little did he know that this was the beginning of a fraudulent scheme that would cost him dearly.
The senior citizen dialed the number, only to be duped of Rs 35,000 in the initial transaction. Shocked by the loss, he attempted to rectify the situation by contacting the number again, hoping to retrieve his money. Unfortunately, the scammers exploited this opportunity to extract even more sensitive information, including credit card details. Subsequently, the fraudsters managed to clone his SIM card and gain access to his phone, resulting in a transaction exceeding Rs 3 lakh.

Nikhil said he was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, at the time. He shared a video on Instagram narrating the entire ordeal, highlighting the need for vigilance, particularly among the elderly population who may not be as tech-savvy.
In response to the incident, Swiggy clarified that they do not operate an official customer care number and advised customers to use the in-app chat support for any assistance. They encouraged reporting such fraudulent activities to cybercrime authorities and assured their cooperation in providing relevant information.
