Indrani Mukerjea's lawyer seizes 'legal mileage' from CBI's 'big blunder' on missing Sheena Bora bones
Indrani Mukerjea's lawyer plans to use the untraceable bones of Sheena Bora to their legal advantage, criticizing the CBI's error. The agency's meticulous reputation is questioned as the bones, crucial evidence in the murder case, are missing.
"From an investigative standpoint, this is a major blunder by the agency. It creates a substantial gap in the prosecution's case, comparable to a lunar crater. We will utilize any legal advantages or mileage this development offers us. The CBI is a highly meticulous, responsible, and premier independent investigating agency of the central government," Mukherjea's lawyer, Ranjeet Sangle, told ANI.
Sangle expressed concern about possible fraud against the CBI, noting that the agency had never physically seen the articles in question.
"They typically don't make mistakes like this. My concern is whether this is a fraud perpetrated on the CBI itself, as records indicate that none of the CBI officers had ever physically or visually inspected these articles," he added.
This revelation came on Thursday during the testimony of a forensic expert from Mumbai's JJ Hospital. The court is currently recording the testimony of the forensic expert who initially examined the bones recovered by Pen police in 2012 from the site where Sheena Bora's burnt body was allegedly buried.
On Thursday, Special Public Prosecutor CJ Nandode informed the court that despite an extensive search, the bones and remains examined by the forensic expert could not be found. Nandode added that the prosecution would proceed with the witness's testimony without the physical evidence, given their untraceability.
The CBI court has adjourned the case to June 27 for further evidence recording, with defense advocates raising no objections to the prosecution's request.
