Flight delay: Hassled flyers rush out of IndiGo plane, sit & eat on tarmac

The IndiGo plane from Goa to Delhi was diverted to Mumbai as the fog-enveloped Delhi airport saw huge disruption of flight shedules. The flyers apprently did what they did as they were harried and irked by the long delay caused by the diversion.

Passengers of an IndiGo Goa-Delhi flight, which was diverted to Mumbai, protested on the tarmac, a video of which has gone viral on social media.
Amid rampant flight disruptions caused by dense fog, low-cost carrier IndiGo has hit the headlines for an unusual incident.

In a case that got major media coverage, many flyers rushed out of an IndiGo aircraft as soon as it landed at the Mumbai airport on Sunday, following a several-hour-long delay.

The passengers then sat on the tarmac. Some of them even had food sitting there.


The flight, originating from Goa and bound for Delhi, had to be diverted to Mumbai on Sunday due to dense fog preventing a landing at the Delhi airport. Adverse weather conditions in Delhi significantly affected multiple flights on that day.

After a video clip took social media by storm, Mumbai airport released a statement saying that in collaboration with the Quick Response Team (QRT) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the airport operators successfully secured the passengers in a safe zone.

An IndiGo representative said that the airline is investigating the incident. It extended a sincere apology to its customers.


According to a statement from a Mumbai airport spokesperson, IndiGo flight 6E 2195 faced delays in Goa, and upon landing in Mumbai, passengers, already frustrated, disembarked hastily once the step ladder connected. The airport operator, in coordination with CISF QRT, promptly cordoned off the passengers into a safety zone because they refused to board the airline coach to proceed to the terminal building.

The spokesperson further said that passengers were closely monitored by airline authorities and security until further actions were taken.

IndiGo's spokesperson said that the diversion to Mumbai was necessitated by low visibility conditions in Delhi. They said the airline would probe the matter, and pledged to take necessary measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

It's worth noting that passengers are generally not permitted to remain on the airport tarmac, and the incident appears to be a breach of security protocols.

Details regarding subsequent actions taken in response to the incident were not immediately available.
