Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs Ambassador Sibi George called on Guterres at the UN headquarters Wednesday.
"Both exchanged views on UN reforms and imparting greater voice to the Global South, which India has consistently championed including through initiatives such as India-UN Development Partnership Fund," MEA official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X.
George arrived here Monday and commenced his official visit to the UN by paying floral tributes at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi at the UN Headquarters.
During the week, he held a series of discussions with top UN officials and addressed key meetings where he highlighted the need for greater representation in the permanent membership of the Security Council, particularly of countries from the Global South.
George also participated in the interactive dialogues with candidates for the post of the next Secretary General of the United Nations, who will assume charge in January 2027.
Guterres will complete his tenure on December 31 this year, after having served two consecutive five-year terms as the world's top diplomat.
