India's largest and third leopard safari was opened to the public at Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP), located 25 kilometers south of Bengaluru. The leopard safari, inaugurated on Wednesday, currently houses eight leopards, with plans to increase this number soon. The 20-hectare safari is secured with railway barricades and enclosed with 4.5-meter-tall chain-link mesh and mild steel sheets to ensure the leopards remain within the boundaries The new leopard safari is part of BBP's overall safari experience, which includes various other attractions.

About Bannerghatta Biological Park

BBP was carved out of Bannerghatta National Park in 2004 and brought under the administration of the Zoo Authority of Karnataka. The park spans over 731.88 hectares and includes multiple units such as a zoo, safari, and butterfly park. Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) is located about 25 kilometers south of Bengaluru city. It comprises several units including the zoo, safari, butterfly park, and rescue center. The park is one of the major zoos in the state, with a focus on scientific development and conservation. It includes maintenance of enclosures for a variety of birds, reptiles, and mammals, safaris for tigers, lions, bears, and herbivores, breeding of endangered species, and rescue centers for animals from circuses and other places.

Bannerghatta Biological Park Safari Timings

BBP remains open for visitors every day except Tuesday. The zoo operates from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, the Grand Safari from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and the butterfly park from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Precautions

Visitors are advised to wear clothing that blends with nature, comfortable shoes, and carry essentials like a water bottle, hat, and raincoat. Safari tickets are limited, and facilities such as cloakrooms, wheelchairs, toilets, and information kiosks are available. Single-use plastics are prohibited, and visitors are encouraged to carry back any waste generated.
To prevent incidents, liquids and food items should be securely contained to avoid snatching by monkeys. The park encourages visitors to dispose of waste properly within BBMP limits.
