Indian Railways fast-tracks ₹1,364 Cr 'Kavach' infra push; North and South zones to benefit
Indian Railways has approved ₹1,364 crore to accelerate the rollout of Kavach train protection system, boosting railway safety in India. The indigenous Kavach system prevents train collisions through real-time signalling communication and automatic braking, reducing human error on high-density rail routes. The upgrade includes major railway infrastructure investment in optical fibre networks and advanced signalling systems across key zones. Railways will also deploy Kavach Version 4.0 on 232 locomotives under a ₹27,693 crore Indian Railways modernization programme. This large-scale train collision prevention technology strengthens operational reliability and safety. The move marks a major step in India’s shift toward tech-driven railway safety and smart rail networks.
