US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi
The meeting came as Rubio held wide-ranging talks with the Indian leadership, with discussions centred on energy security, trade tensions, defence cooperation and Indo-Pacific strategy. According to US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, the talks were “productive” and focused on deepening cooperation in security, trade and critical technologies, reinforcing India’s role as a vital partner for the United States.
Energy is understood to have emerged as a central focus of the engagement, with the US expected to push for expanded exports of liquefied natural gas and LPG to India amid global supply volatility. The discussions also came against the backdrop of India’s recent crude oil purchases from Russia and ongoing efforts to stabilise domestic fuel prices amid geopolitical disruptions.
Sergio Gor also revealed that Rubio, on behalf of US President Donald Trump, extended an invitation to Prime Minister Modi to visit the White House in the near future, signalling continued high-level engagement between the two nations.
