Belem: Ending all speculation on India's climate targets or nationally determined contributions (NDCs) for 2035, environment minister Bhupinder Yadav on Tuesday said New Delhi would submit its NDCs by December.

Delivering the national statement at the ministerial segment of the COP30 UN climate talks, Yadav asked rich industrialised countries to demonstrate greater climate ambition and honour their commitments on supporting developing countries tackle climate finance.

"Developed countries must reach net zero far earlier than current target dates and deliver new, additional, and concessional climate finance at a scale of trillions, not billions," said Yadav. He did not provide any insight into India's future climate targets.

India has come under some criticism for not submitting its NDCs ahead of COP30 or even at the COP.

The national statement was largely a restating of a progress report on past and existing commitments. Yadav said India's emission intensity has declined by more than 36% since 2005, and non-fossil sources account for more than half of its total electric power installed capacity of around 256 GW currently, an NDC target achieved five years ahead of the country's 2030 goal.

He said India is working on becoming net zero by 2070.

Yadav said the world needs to "move from goal setting to implementation". Stressing that India was committed to global efforts to tackle climate change, the minister highlighted international partnerships such as the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, and Global Biofuel Alliance.

Earlier on Monday, Yadav chaired the LeadIT Industry Leaders' Roundtable-India is co-co-chair of the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT).
