Raisi's death

Raisi's demise, alongside the foreign minister and additional officials in a helicopter accident in northwestern Iran on Sunday, occurred amid Iran's internal discord and strained global relations. Initially a cleric, Raisi's demeanor resembled that of a preacher more than a statesman, notably seen by his Quran kiss at the UN.

After losing the 2017 presidential election to the comparatively moderate Hassan Rouhani, Raisi ascended to power four years later in an election orchestrated by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, ensuring the elimination of significant opposition candidates.
