Delhi's Mungeshpur witnesses record high temperature of 52.3 degree Celsius
Delhi's Mungeshpur has witnessed a historic high temperature, recording a scorching 52.3 degrees Celsius, the highest ever recorded in India. This surpasses the previous record of 49.2 degrees Celsius set in 2002. The extreme heatwave has gripped the region, with Mungeshpur experiencing temperatures over nine degrees higher than expected. The situation is part of a broader heatwave affecting several parts of India.

Record-breaking Heat Across the Country
Several other places in India have also experienced intense heat, with Phalodi in Rajasthan recording 51 degrees Celsius, Sirsa in Haryana at 50.3 degrees Celsius, and Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh at 48 degrees Celsius. The scorching temperatures have pushed residents to seek relief from the heat, with many turning to power-intensive air conditioning, leading to Delhi's all-time high power demand of 8,302 megawatts (MW).

Respite from the Heat
Despite the intense heat, there is some relief on the horizon. Rainfall in northwest Delhi has provided a slight reprieve from the high temperatures. Additionally, a decrease in temperature by up to 4 degrees Celsius has been recorded in south Rajasthan districts like Barmer, Jodhpur, and Udaipur. This drop in temperature is attributed to moist winds from the Arabian Sea, signaling the beginning of a reduction in the heatwave over northwest India.
