"The issues of territorial integrity of each other's countries and long-standing support for each other on such matters was discussed when I met foreign minister Jaishankar for detailed review of our partnership," Selakovi told ET following his series of meetings with the Indian leadership here earlier this week. He visited India as a special envoy of the President of Serbia.
The two ministers also shared views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. They agreed that the rule of law and respect for sovereignty, and territorial integrity are fundamental principles of international relations that must be observed by all. India gives principled support to territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia and has not recognised the Unilateral Declaration of Independence by Kosovo.
India and Serbia (as a successor state of Yugoslavia), are co-founders of Non-Aligned Movement, and have traditionally enjoyed close partnership for decades. Belgrade is hosting a mega event on October 11-12 to mark the 60th anniversary of the first NAM Conference. "MoS Meenakshi Lekhi is expected to represent India at the event. We are working out an elaborate program for that proposed visit," Selakovi indicated.
During the dialogue the two countries discussed opportunities for enhancing collaboration in sectors like agriculture, food processing, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, electronics, etc.
