India has reported 60,471 new COVID-19 cases - almost 10,000 less than the day before - while 2,276 more have succumbed to the virus.

With the addition of the new cases, India's tally rises to 2,95,70,881 and the death toll is now 3,77,031. This single day rise in the lowest increase the subcontinent has witnessed in 75 days — from March 31 2021, when the country saw 72,330 new cases.

With case numbers falling every day, multiple states in the country have decided to relax COVID-19 restrictions, with Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Haryana all relaxing curfew timings. Some other states have remained cautious, with Uttarakhand extending restrictions till June 22. Delhi has put in place a comprehensive 'unlock' plan, with markets and malls set to reopen, while restaurants are set to seat 50% of their capacity.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state, registering 1,592 deaths in the last day, while also seeing 8,000 plus cases. However, there is a silver lining — the state's cases have dropped below 10,000 after a long time.
