India reports 2,202 new infections, weekly cases see significant dip

India reported 2,202 new coronavirus infections even as the active cases in the country dipped to 17,317. A fall of 20 per cent in the cases was witnessed in the week ending Sunday after rising for four consecutive weeks.

The fall in cases has been driven by a substantial decline in cases in Delhi-NCR. Delhi reported a decline of 37% in cases in the week ending May 15, Times of India reported.

A decline was seen in the adjoining states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. While Haryana saw a decline of 28% cases in the week ending Sunday, Uttar Pradesh saw a fall of 23%.


A decrease of 375 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.74 per cent and weekly positivity rate was recorded at 0.59 per cent, according to the health ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,25,82,243, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.22 per cent.

The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive has exceeded 191.37 crore.
