The four Codes, approved by the Parliament in 2019 and 2020, will replace 29 labour laws and will aim towards gender equality in workplace, universal social security and enabling provisions to enhance ease of living for workers and ease of doing business for employers.

The four Codes include Wagera Code, Social Security Code, Industrial Relations Code and the Code on Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions.
"From today, the new labour codes have been implemented in the country," labour and employment minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted.
"These reforms are not just ordinary changes, but a major step taken by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for the welfare of the workforce," he said
Some of the key provisions include guarantee of timely minimum wages for all workers, guarantee of appointment letters for the youth along with equal pay for equally work and social security for 40 crore workers.
Besides, the Codes will guarantee gratuity for fixed-term employees after one year of employment as well as free annual health check-ups for workers above 40 years of age, among other welfare measures for around 500 million workers in the country
