India, Maldives have responsibility for peace, security in IOR: Jaishankar

The two countries signed agreements related to bilateral development cooperation during the minister's visit. A number of ground-breaking, inauguration, handing over and launch of key India-supported projects also took place during the visit.

India and the Maldives are good neighbours and have a responsibility for maintaining peace and security in the region, foreign minister S Jaishankar has said. Jaishankar, who is in the Indian Ocean Region IOR state, made the remarks after "productive discussions" with his counterpart Abdulla Shahid in Male on Wednesday.

The two countries signed agreements related to bilateral development cooperation during the minister's visit. A number of ground-breaking, inauguration, handing over and launch of key India-supported projects also took place during the visit.

"The Government of India gifts two sea ambulances to the Government of Maldives facilitated under the HICDP scheme as a means of broadening the capacity and responsiveness of emergency medical services throughout the Maldives," Shahid tweeted later.


"My visit was an opportunity to see tangible results. Witness exchange of agreements and handovers on: Community development projects across Maldives. Development of a sports complex in Gahdhoo; academic collaboration between Maldives National University and Cochin University Sea Ambulance to Maldives' Defence Force," Jaishankar tweeted.
