The last young global police leaders programme was held in Dubai. In 2022, India hosted the 90th Interpol general assembly meet in which nearly 170 member countries participated. The global leaders programme was started in 2019 with an aim to train young police officers from across the globe about emerging trends in policing, crime and terrorism. The Central Bureau of Investigation, which acts as a nodal agency with Interpol, is expected to coordinate with the participating nations.
A senior official said participants from China, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq and Sudan would require security clearances as these countries were classified as "countries of concern". The clearance involves vetting of names of the participants by the security agencies and political clearance by the Ministry of External Affairs.
