Amid escalating Iran-Israel conflict, India is planning to host Egyptian foreign minister Badr Abdelatty next week.

The visit has been in the making for weeks and was firmed up amid fast-moving developments in West Asia and the Persian Gulf.

Egypt remains an anchor for India in North Africa with which investment and security ties have been on the upswing, according to persons familiar with the dynamics of the relationship.

Egypt has been a key player in the Arab world, on Palestine issue and the Gaza affairs.

Understandably, the Gaza situation and Egypt's plan for rebuilding Gaza will figure in the discussions when Abdelatty meets external affairs minister S Jaishankar.

Egypt was the first Arab state to establish diplomatic ties with Israel way back in the 1970s. Pahalgam terror attacks and Operation Sindoor would also be on the agenda of the visit.
