India-Japan Semicon Push: Piyush Goyal announces BIS relief for high-tech manufacturers

At a roundtable in Tokyo, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has announced that India is working on a framework to ease BIS certification requirements for specialised equipment and components used by high-tech industries, including semiconductor manufacturing. Goyal said the framework could explore company, industry, product or project-based exemptions to speed up supplies and investments. He also assured Japanese investors that the Centre would help address regulatory complexities at the state and local levels. The move comes as India seeks to deepen its semiconductor partnership with Japan and build a globally competitive electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
