Close on the heels of Italy's medical support to India to fight the second wave of Covid, a Memorandum of Understanding on the cooperation in the field of disaster risk reduction and management was signed this week by New Delhi and Rome to share and learn from each others' best practices.

The ceremony for the signature, which took place virtually, was attended by the Secretary of the National Authority for Disaster Management of the Indian Republic, Kamal Kishore, Eng. Luigi D’Angelo and Prof. Mauro Dolce of the Italian Civil Protection Department, and the Ambassador of Italy to India, Vincenzo de Luca.

This is a further step in the implementation of the Action Plan adopted by the two Heads of Government at the virtual Summit held last November. There is a long lasting and fruitful collaboration between Italy and India in the field of natural disaster management, as witnessed also at multilateral level within the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), according to an official statement.

The protocol signed this week fosters the exchange of technical-scientific information, the exchange of experts, the development of strategies and methods aimed at reducing common risks, the study and analysis of the impact of natural disasters, sharing of skills and procedures for assistance in the event of natural disasters.

"This tool highlights the will of the Italian and Indian governments to join forces and share experiences and technologies to increase the resilience of infrastructures and protect economies from the risks deriving from natural disasters," stated Vincenzo de Luca, Ambassador of Italy to India
