New Delhi: India reiterated on Friday that it follows a bilateral approach to resolving border disputes with China, keeping it in with its established policy, after US President Donald Trump offered to mediate an end to the Sino-Indian "border skirmishes."

Trump's unexpected mediation offer came after his bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House early Friday.

During a joint press meet with Modi following the Summit, Trump noted that the skirmishes were quite violent - and that he would like to mediate.

"I think we are going to have a very good relationship with China. I got along very well with President Xi until Covid...I think China is a very important player in the world."

The US President has also hinted at a deal with China to maximise economic relationship.

Later briefing media on the visit Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, "We have, whatever issues we have with our, any of our neighbours, we have always adopted a bilateral approach to dealing with these issues. "
