India emerging as trusted global defence partner, PM Modi says in Mann Ki Baat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said India is steadily strengthening its defence capabilities and earning the confidence of countries around the world as a reliable defence partner, while also paying tribute to the soldiers who secured victory in the 1999 Kargil War.

In the latest edition of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, Modi remembered the sacrifices of the armed forces on Kargil Vijay Diwas, describing July 26 as a day that evokes pride and gratitude across the nation.

"Kargil Vijay Diwas reminds us of the unmatched courage and determination of our brave soldiers," the Prime Minister said, recalling how Indian troops overcame difficult terrain and fierce enemy resistance during the conflict.

From missiles to space

Turning to India's defence and technology achievements, Modi said the country is making rapid progress in defence manufacturing and exports, with Indian-made systems gaining wider international acceptance.

Referring to his recent visit to Indonesia, he noted that the two countries had concluded a significant agreement involving the BrahMos and Astra missile systems, calling it another sign of growing global trust in India's defence industry.

The Prime Minister also highlighted a series of recent milestones achieved by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). He pointed to the successful test of the Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket earlier this month, followed by the trial of the Kusha missile, crediting scientists and engineers for advancing India's indigenous defence capabilities.

Modi also celebrated the successful launch of Vikram-1, calling it a landmark moment for India's space programme. Developed by the private sector, the rocket's launch reflected the growing role of Indian startups and young innovators in cutting-edge technology, he said.

He added that India's recent achievements extend beyond defence and space, noting the country's strong performances in international science Olympiads as further evidence of its expanding scientific and technological capabilities.

According to the Prime Minister, these successes reflect the talent, perseverance and innovation of India's youth, reinforcing the country's growing stature in science, technology and strategic sectors.
