India condemns violence on minorities in Bangladesh, calls attacks on minorities ‘worrisome’: MEA
India on Friday strongly condemned the killing of a 25-year-old Bangladeshi national from a minority community, an incident that drew global outrage last week, and said such acts of violence cannot be dismissed or normalised.

Citing inputs from independent sources, the Ministry of External Affairs said more than 2,900 incidents of violence against minorities have been recorded in Bangladesh during the tenure of the interim government.

"The unremitting atrocities against minorities in Bangladesh, including Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists are a matter of grave concern," Jaiswal said.

The comments came through the Ministry of External Affairs, during its weekly briefing in New Delhi, and were delivered by official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

Dipu Chandra Das, a 25-year-old Hindu factory worker, was lynched by a mob in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh city over alleged blasphemy, with seven people now arrested in connection with the killing, the country’s interim government said on Saturday.

Das was attacked last Thursday when a group of people allegedly assaulted him outside the factory where he worked. According to police, he was beaten by the mob, hanged from a tree, and later his body was set on fire.

In a statement posted on X, the interim government led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus said the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) had detained seven suspects as part of the investigation. The arrests were carried out during raids at multiple locations, and those taken into custody are aged between 19 and 46.

After the assault, the attackers reportedly left Das’s body along the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway before setting it ablaze. Police later recovered the remains and sent them to the morgue at Mymensingh Medical College for an autopsy.

The interim government condemned the killing on Friday, calling it an act of extreme violence that has no place in the country’s future. “The perpetrators of this heinous crime will not be spared,” it said.

The incident comes amid heightened concern among minority communities in Bangladesh. Members of the Hindu population have reported a series of attacks and intimidation following the ouster of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina in August last year.
