​India condemns ‘horrific attack’ on author Salman Rushdie

"India has always stood against violence and extremism. We condemn the horrific attack on Salman Rushdie and we wish him a speedy recovery," External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said at a press briefing.

India on Thursday condemned the "horrific attack" on author Salman Rushdie and wished a speedy recovery.

This is the country’s first reaction to the stabbing of the 75-year-old author.

"India has always stood against violence and extremism. We condemn the horrific attack on Salman Rushdie and we wish him a speedy recovery," External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said at a press briefing.


The author was stabbed in the neck and torso while delivering a lecture at the Chautauqua Institution in New York on August 12.
