India backs UN ‘Correct the Map’ resolution; diplomat says ‘no specific projection’ endorsement
The UN General Assembly adopted the “Correct the Map” resolution with 164 votes in favour, one against and six abstentions, backing wider use of equal-area projections such as “Equal Earth” to address distortions in the Mercator map. India supported the resolution, while diplomat Raghoo Puri said the approach should remain “technologically neutral” rather than favouring any single cartographic system.
