Insights from the Report
The report is based on survey conducted among 1,300 executives across ten countries to assess the status of AI implementation across various industries. The findings reveal that 60 percent of companies in leading countries, including India, Singapore, the UK, and the US, have either operational AI projects or pilots. In contrast, only 36 percent of companies in lagging countries such as Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, and Japan have initiated similar AI endeavors.
Divergent Approaches to AI
The report highlights differences in the approach to AI between leaders and laggards. Globally, 67 percent of companies in AI-leading countries report having hybrid IT environments, with India leading at 70 percent and Japan trailing at 24 percent. Moreover, AI leaders are more likely to experience benefits such as increased production rates (50 percent), automation of routine activities (46 percent), and enhanced customer experience (45 percent).
Challenges and Opportunities
The report identifies IT costs and data security as significant challenges for AI adoption. However, it underscores that these obstacles are unlikely to impede the progress of AI.
Implications for Economic Growth
The report concludes that the growing divide in AI adoption underscores its profound impact on economic growth, innovation, and competitiveness globally. Nations at the forefront of AI adoption are poised to reap significant benefits across various sectors, including finance, healthcare, manufacturing, and transportation. Conversely, those slow to embrace AI risk falling behind in the race for technological supremacy.
"The NetApp report rightly underscores India's leadership status in AI implementation, especially in the legacy of digital advancement exemplified by milestones like UPI payments. With many projects underway, like the IndiaAI mission and Make AI in India, the country is leading the way in advanced tech adoption. The country’s robust digital infrastructure and extensive mobile & internet penetration are other positive signs in India’s tech story," Harsha Solanki, VP GM Asia, Infobip said.
