Independence Day traffic advisory: Road closures announced; Following roads to stay closed, check alternative routes here

In preparation for the Independence Day 2024 function, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued a detailed traffic advisory regarding road closures and alternative routes for the full dress rehearsal scheduled for August 13. Key roads across the city will be closed from 4 am to 11 am to ensure smooth conduct of the rehearsal.

Delhi Police Traffic Advisory: Road Closures

Eight major roads will be off-limits to traffic during the rehearsal hours:

• Netaji Subhash Marg
• Lothian Road
• SP Mukherjee Marg
• Chandni Chowk Road
• Nishad Raj Marg
• Esplanade Road and its Link Road
• Ring Road from Rajghat to ISBT
• Outer Ring Road from ISBT to IP Flyover

Restricted Areas:

• Copernicus Marg
• Mandi House

Independence Day Traffic Advisory: Alternative Routes:

For commuters travelling between North and South Delhi, the recommended alternative routes include:

• SPM Marg
• 11 Murti
• Mother Teresa Crescent
• Park Street
• Mandir Marg
• Panchkuian Road
• Rani Jhansi Road

In the East-West corridor, traffic will be redirected to:

• NH-24
• Nizamuddin Khatta
• Barapula Road
• Under AIIMS Flyover on Ring Road
• Nizamuddin Khatta
• Ring Road
• Mathura Road
• Subramania Bharti Marg
• Rajesh Pilot Marg
• Prithviraj Road

Bridge Closures:

The Old Iron Bridge and Geeta Colony Bridge towards Shanti Van will be closed during the rehearsal hours. However, DND, NH-24 (NH-9), Yudhister Setu, Signature Bridge, and Wazirabad Bridge will remain open for access to Ring Road.

Goods Vehicle Restrictions:

The movement of goods vehicles between Nizamuddin and Wazirabad bridges will be restricted from midnight on August 12 until 11 am on August 13.

Inter-State and City Buses:

Inter-state buses will be prohibited between Maharana Pratap ISBT and Sarai Kale Khan ISBT during the rehearsal period. Additionally, city buses, including those operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), will not operate on Ring Road between ISBT and NH-24 (NH-9)/NH T-point and will take alternative routes.

Public Advisory:

People attending the Independence Day function are advised to avoid bringing items such as cameras, binoculars, remote control car keys, umbrellas, handbags, briefcases, transistors, cigarette lighters, tiffin boxes, water bottles, and lunch boxes.

Additionally, the flying of sub-conventional aerial platforms such as paragliders, UAVs, and hot air balloons is prohibited over Delhi until August 15.

These measures are in place to ensure public safety and the smooth conduct of the Independence Day celebrations. Commuters are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly and follow the advisory to avoid inconvenience.
