Independence Day 2024: Check out Delhi Airport flight restrictions as airlines issue advisory

On Independence Day, August 15, Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport will enforce restrictions on non-scheduled flights during specific hours to ensure security for Independence Day celebrations. Non-scheduled flights, including those operated by scheduled airlines and private jets, will be barred from taking off or landing between 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, new agency PTI reported.

Scheduled flights will continue to operate as usual, and the restrictions will not affect aircraft operated by the Indian Air Force (IAF), Border Security Force (BSF), Army aviation helicopters, or state-owned aircraft. Additionally, flights carrying Governors, Chief Ministers, or those engaged in urgent medical evacuations or quick response missions are exempt from these limitations.

The notice, known as a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen), was issued by the Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) under the Airports Authority of India (AAI). NOTAMs are crucial for informing flight operations personnel about temporary changes or restrictions affecting air traffic.


Delhi’s airport, the busiest in the country, will also implement enhanced security measures throughout the day. Security has been beefed up in the run-up to Independence Day. Travelers are advised to plan their arrival times accordingly to accommodate additional security checks and cooperate with airport staff.
