Incessant rain has triggered massive landslides in several areas of Northeast India.

Guwahati-Silchar route via Meghalaya’s Jaintia Hills is cut off. Lumshnong in East Jaintia Hills, communication has been disrupted after a part of the National Highway 6 collapsed due to raging waters flowing along the route.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma reviewed the prevailing situation and held discussions with officials of the respective district administrations.


In this meeting it was decided that 4 regional committees would be formed to monitor and take swift action as and when necessary if heavy rainfall leads to serious consequences.

Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), nearly 75,000 people in 18 districts of the state have been affected by the current wave of flood till June 15. Around 314 villages under 37 revenue circles have been affected and around 1731.18 hectares of cropland is affected.

At least four people were killed in a landslide in Guwahati on Tuesday. On Thursday there were reports of three people dead in Assam one among them due to lightning and two in a landslide.
