Guwahati: In violence ravaged Manipur security forces rescued people and assisted people of NHIDCL.

In view of prevailing tense situation in Manipur, false rumours are rife which are fuelling the insecurity among populace.

On 6 May information was received by Assam Rifles at Jiribam about likely move of armed people in a truck towards Jiribam town. The internal security columns immediately acted. A suspected truck was stopped at Jiribam - Tamenglong border in which 51 locals were found hiding.


It was found that civilians were daily wage labourers and residents of Assam who were working in Manipur and were trying to escape the tense security situation. All innocent civilians were rescued safely to Cachar by Assam Rifles troops.

Quick actions taken Agartala Sector Assam Rifles doused the false rumours and rescued civilians. The forces are proactively maintaining the peace and harmony and are taking all steps to prevent false rumours in Jiribam District, Manipur.

Assam Rifles Bn under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), proactively reacted to the request of NHIDCL whose movement were stopped by locals of Sinzawl vill owing to situation in Manipur. Though the locals did not pose a physical threat to the employees, the blockade was imposed by some local leaders. The blockade caused extreme psychological tension to the employees and their families.

NHIDCL requested Assam Rifles for assistance for their evacuation to a safe place , Aizawl Batallion reacted swiftly by launching rescue column from their nearest operating bases. The officers of AR coordinated with the VCP of nearby villages of the incidence location and leaders of CYMA , MZP(Mizo Zarlai Pawl) Sinzawl in resolving the situation thereby preventing the situation going out of control. The 188 NHIDCL workers were evacuated safely to nearby operating bases and given food and shelter. Though the villagers of Mimbung blocked the road, however the issue was resolved amicably.

Assam Rifles appreciate the mature and timely action of VCPs, local leaders of vills of both side, CYMA and MZP office bearers which resulted in peacefully resolving the issue of shifting strandled employees from the sensitive area of Manipur to safer places in Mizoram. Such showcasing of compassionate behaviour on humanitarian grounds will go a long way and as a role model during tense situation prevalent in Manipur.
