US envoy to India Sergio Gor on Monday said the United States is “eager to get to work” with India and deepen bilateral ties under President Donald Trump’s leadership, as he began his tenure in New Delhi.

In a post on X, Gor expressed optimism about the relationship and underlined his intention to advance Trump’s priorities in India–US engagement.

“Namaste! Today marks my first day at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi. I am honored to join this dedicated team and eager to get to work advancing President Donald Trump’s priorities and deepening the U.S.-India partnership. I couldn’t be more optimistic about the days ahead for both of our nations under President Trump’s leadership,” he wrote, sharing pictures from the US embassy.

Earlier in the day, Gor described the India-US relationship as rooted in genuine friendship and said that both countries continue active engagement on trade issues. “Real friends can disagree, but resolve the difference,” he said, indicating that tariff and market-access talks will proceed despite differences.
