Heavy rains swept through several regions of Kerala on Friday, leading to widespread waterlogging and traffic congestion.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for five districts, signaling very heavy rainfall.

The districts under orange alert include Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur.


Further, yellow alert was issued for seven other districts, indicating expected heavy rainfall between 6 and 11 cm.

An orange alert denotes anticipated rainfall of 6 cm to 20 cm.

The IMD also forecasted thunderstorms with heavy rainfall and gusty winds in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam.

Thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall and gusty winds are expected in parts of Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha.

As the state grapples with the impact of the rains, authorities are monitoring the situation closely to manage any potential hazards.
