IMD issues orange alert as heavy rains lash Mumbai
An orange alert has also been issued for Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts in Maharashtra's Konkan region.
Heavy rainfall this morning has resulted in waterlogging and traffic disruptions across Mumbai. According to the IMD, the city has recorded 61.69 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. Additionally, authorities have warned of a high tide of 3.87 meters expected in Mumbai at 4:06 pm today. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 29 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may settle at 24 degrees Celsius.
"An orange alert has also been issued for Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts in Maharashtra's Konkan region."
BMC has also requested Mumbaikars to avoid stepping out, if not essential.
In other parts of India, rain impacted Delhi and neighboring Noida on Saturday morning, causing similar issues with waterlogging and traffic. The rain has brought some respite from the heat of July. Footage from the Barapullah flyover in Delhi shows vehicles moving slowly through waterlogged roads, while light rain was seen in Janpath.
The weather forecast has led authorities to alert residents of villages situated along the Yamuna River’s banks in Noida due to the anticipated rise in water levels. These villages experienced severe flooding during last year's monsoon season, causing significant inconvenience to the residents.
"The IMD predicted that light rain would continue in Delhi and Noida till July 17. Due to the rain, the water levels in the Yamuna River are expected to rise in the coming days, prompting the authorities to issue an alert to the residents of villages in Noida situated along the banks of the river."
With the monsoon season ongoing, authorities remain on high alert to manage and mitigate the impacts of the continuous rain in both Mumbai and Delhi.
