IMD forecasts heavy rainfall in Kerala from June 12-14

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert in Kannur district and a yellow alert in eight other districts of the state for the day.

Thiruvananthapuram: The IMD on Friday said there was a likelihood of strong winds and thunderstorms in some parts of Kerala during the day and heavy to very heavy rainfall over the weekend in the state.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert in Kannur district and a yellow alert in eight other districts of the state for the day.

An orange alert means very heavy rain of 11 cm to 20 cm in a day, while a yellow alert means heavy rainfall between 6 cm and 11 cm.


The weather agency said that there was possibility of isolated incidents of strong winds of speeds 40 to 50 kilometers per hour and thunderstorms in the state on Friday and Saturday.

It also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Kerala over the weekend.

The IMD also warned against fishing activities along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts on Friday and Saturday due to the possibility of bad weather conditions and strong winds of speeds reaching upto 60 kmph.
