'I’m alive,' Aligarh woman battles error after receiving her own death certificate
A 58-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh has spent nearly three years trying to prove she is alive after receiving her own death certificate instead of her husband's, The Times of India reported. The clerical error by the Chamar Nagaria gram panchayat in Khair block has left Saroj Devi unable to access government welfare schemes after her Aadhaar card was blocked as a result of the mix-up.

Devi, a resident of Chaman Nagariya village, has been visiting multiple government offices seeking correction of the mistake but says officials have repeatedly delayed action. “I’ve been making the rounds of various offices for several months to rectify the mistake. Officials keep delaying the matter,” she told authorities during her latest attempt.

On Saturday, the distressed woman met Khair SDM Shishir Kumar to file a formal complaint. Speaking to TOI on Sunday, Kumar confirmed the issue, saying, “Yes, she visited my office on Saturday and made a formal complaint. A committee has been formed to investigate the matter.”

Devi remains unable to carry out essential official work until her Aadhaar is restored.
