Domestic piped natural gas (PNG) prices have been reduced across Delhi and key NCR cities from January 1, bringing modest relief to household kitchens at the start of the new year. Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) announced a cut of 70 paise per unit, a move expected to benefit nearly 25 lakh households in the region.

Revised PNG rates in Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad, from January 1

Following the revision, domestic PNG now costs Rs 47.89 per standard cubic metre (SCM) in Delhi. Consumers in Gurugram will pay Rs 46.70 per SCM, while the price in Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad stands at Rs 47.76 per SCM.

The price change takes effect immediately and applies to households using piped gas for daily cooking needs.

IGL announced the reduction through a social media post, highlighting its focus on clean and affordable energy as 2026 begins.

“IGL has announced a substantial reduction in its domestic PNG prices this coming New Year for its consumers in Delhi and NCR by ₹0.70 per SCM…. IGL reinforces its commitment to making clean energy both accessible and affordable as we step into 2026,” the company said in a post on X.

What triggered the price reduction

The price cut followed recent changes made by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). On December 16, the regulator announced a revised pipeline tariff structure covering the transportation of natural gas across the country.

Natural gas carried through these pipelines is used for multiple purposes, including household cooking, CNG for vehicles, power generation, and fertiliser production.

The revised tariffs, which came into effect from January 1, aim to make gas transportation simpler, fairer, and more cost-effective. The changes are expected to support the city gas distribution sector and gradually pass on cost benefits to end consumers.

For households in Delhi-NCR, the immediate impact is a small but timely reduction in monthly gas bills — a quiet New Year adjustment that eases everyday expenses.
