Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday in South Korea said that if Assam can house an automobile manufacturing ecosystem it could transform the socio-economic landscape of the North East.

Sarma who is on a visit to South Korea stated in X, “I am of the firm belief that if Assam can house an automobile manufacturing ecosystem, we could transform the socio-economic landscape of the Northeast. Today during my meeting with CEOs and Leaders from South Korea’s automobile ancillary firms, I have offered them the unstinting support of our State, should they choose to build a base in Assam. With easy access to India’s $100 billion auto industry and that of SouthEast Asia, Assam offers them unparalleled advantages.”

He stated, “In my conversation with the delegation of KOTRA, I stressed on Assam's rich tourism potential and on our plans to create a full-fledged semiconductor ecosystem in Assam to complement the world's largest OSAT unit coming up in Jagiroad.”

Sarma informed, “I had an excellent discussion with Kyungsung Kang, the President of Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and his team in Seoul today. We discussed a shared strategy to explore avenues of partnership for growth and development in fields of trade, commerce, industry and skilling for mutual benefits of Assam and Korean businesses.”

Sarma who is on a two nation tour to hold road shows for Advantage Assam event slated for next month said, “Assam has three major advantages- locational, strategic and policy. Above all, Assam and the Northeast are among the biggest priorities of the Government of India led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
