‘I apologise’: Bengal CM Adhikari after govt ad sparks row over ‘distorted’ Durga image
Kolkata: Major controversy erupted over an advertisement by West Bengal government, portraying Goddess Durga with 11 arms instead of 10, following which West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday apologised for an advertisement by his government.

Adhikari, while speaking at a coordination meeting on Durga Puja in Kolkata. said, “I apologise to all for the erroneous advertisement that came out in the morning. As the chief minister of the state, I apologize. The people who are engaged in creating advertisements have been given a stern warning. The state government, henceforth, will be careful.”

The advertisement was in connection with the meeting for the Durga Puja for the preparations which was seen in several newspapers and social media. However, at the meeting, the Goddess’ image on the background hoarding had 11 arms instead of 10.


Meanwhile, liquor shops and bars across the state will remain closed on Maha Ashtami during the upcoming Durga Puja, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced on Monday, as the state government unveiled a series of measures to ensure orderly and peaceful celebrations.

Adhikari said no liquor would be sold anywhere in the state on Maha Ashtami.

"On the day when devotees offer Anjali (Maha Ashtami) to Maa Durga, all liquor shops in the state will remain closed. There will be no liquor available in bars either," he said.
