After several decades of delay, the government is now set to implement a new plan to protect the iconic Charminar monument and surrounding areas from traffic congestion and air pollution. As per a ToI report, the ambitious Charminar Pedestrianisation Project (CPP) is titled as 'Restructuring the Historic Core of Charminar'. The project proposes a traffic plan to segregate outer and inner ring roads, along with pedestrianising four different routes leading to the monument.

As per ToI, the action plan outlines the outer ring road's encirclement of the monument through Mir Alam Mandi Road, Mehendi Road, Bowli Road, and Chaderghat Road, while the inner ring surrounds the monument via Moghalpura Road, Kali Kaman Road, and Lodhi Khan Road, eventually connecting to the outer ring.

It also aims to restore the streetscape to its original charm, with arched kamaans on the ground floor, uniform signage, and wooden louvred window shutters above, to recreate the historic shopping street's distinctive character.

Additionally, the traffic management plan involves pedestrianising routes between Gulzar Houz and Char Kaman, Charminar and Laad Bazar, Mothi Gali junction, Charminar and Paris corner junction, and Charminar and Sardar Mahal, with the goal of creating a protective buffer zone around the historic structure, ToI report stated.

The revamped plan also encompasses the conservation and restoration of other historically significant buildings like the four Kamans, Pathergatti Arcade, and Sardar Mahal, further enhancing the area's cultural heritage.

This concerted effort marks the first comprehensive attempt to revive the vicinity surrounding the iconic Charminar since its inception. The government also aims to collaborate with the medical and health department to restore the front facade of the Unani Hospital.
