Hyderabad: Toddler runs towards father, gets crushed under school bus wheels

In a tragic incident that marks the ninth such occurrence in less than a year, a devastating accident took the life of a 19-month-old toddler in Habsiguda. The child, identified as Jewel Anna Midhu, met with a fatal accident under the wheels of a school bus while waiting to bid farewell to her older brother, George Midhun, a student at Johnson Grammar school.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday morning, unfolded as the family gathered for the routine send-off. Jewel Anna Midhu, accompanied by her father and grandmother, stepped out of their residence in Ravindra Nagar Colony around 8.15 am to see George off to school. However, tragedy struck swiftly as the innocent toddler strayed away in search of her father, who was engaged in a conversation with the bus driver.

According to the authorities, while the father was engrossed in discussing their upcoming trip to Kerala and notifying the driver that George would not require transportation for a few days, the child wandered unnoticed. In a heart-wrenching turn of events, she collided with the bus's front tire and fell, subsequently going unnoticed by the driver as he commenced moving the vehicle. Tragically, she was caught under the rear tire, resulting in severe injuries that led to her untimely demise.


An official from OU police station reported, "The child hit the front tyre and fell. The driver did not notice her and started the bus. She came under the rear tyre that went over her head causing grievous injuries." Despite immediate efforts, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at a private hospital.

The aftermath witnessed a wave of grief and outrage as the family and local residents rallied together, staging a protest near the school premises in Habsiguda, demanding strict action against the responsible party. Consequently, based on the family's complaint, the bus driver was charged under Section 304A (negligence causing death) of the Indian Penal Code and taken into custody.
