Hyderabad on red alert today: Here are most flood-affected areas, cancelled and diverted trains list amid heavy rainfall

Heavy rains in Hyderabad on Saturday caused significant disruptions across the city, leading to widespread waterlogging and massive traffic jams. The downpour, which began as a light drizzle around 5 am, continued throughout the day, severely affecting daily life.

IMD has predicted heavy rains are expected in various parts of Hyderabad for the next 2-3 days.

A depression currently centred over South Chhattisgarh and adjacent South Odisha is showing signs of weakening, according to the latest updates by the Met department. As of September 1, the depression was located approximately 90 kilometers west of Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh and around 190 kilometers east of Ramagundam in Telangana.


This weather system is expected to weaken further into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area within the next 12 hours.

Hyderabad Weather: Worst-Hit Areas

Several areas in the city, including Hayathnagar, Uppal, Quthbullapur, Musheerabad, Moosapet, Begumpet, and Gachibowli, were among the worst affected by the rain. Water quickly accumulated on the streets, creating knee-deep flooding in some neighborhoods. The highest cumulative rainfall in the city was recorded at Hayathnagar with 18.5 mm, followed by Saroornagar with 17 mm, Secunderabad with 15.6 mm, Faluknama with 15.3 mm, and Hayathnagar with 15.1 mm. Weather expert T Balaji warned of further heavy rains in the coming days, stating, “Multiple storms are moving in from Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy.”

Heavy rainfall in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh has severely disrupted train traffic across both states. On Sunday, officials reported widespread stoppages, cancellations, and diversions of several trains due to flooding on the railway tracks.

Telangana Rains: 24 Trains Stopped on Vijayawada-Kazipet Route

As many as 24 trains were halted on the Vijayawada-Kazipet route as water from lakes and streams overflowed onto the tracks. The South Central Railway (SCR) cancelled 30 trains within the Vijayawada division due to the flooding. In Mahabubabad district of Telangana, floodwater damaged the railway track, particularly near Ayodhya village, where a tank breach caused severe inundation.

Track Damages in Multiple Locations

The flooding led to further damage to the railway track between Kesamudram and Intikanne. The concrete beneath the tracks was washed away, causing significant disruptions. Water flowed above the railway track near Mahabubabad, forcing authorities to halt Simhadri and Machilipatnam express trains at Mahabubabad Railway Station. Other express trains, including Gautami, Sanghamitra, Kanga-Kaveri, Charminar, and Yeshwantpur, were also stopped due to the unsafe conditions.

Hyderabad Rain: Train Cancellations and delays

In one instance, the Mahabubnagar-Visakhapatnam Express was stopped at Pandillapalli for four hours as floodwaters covered the tracks. Several trains were subsequently cancelled, including Vijayawada-Secunderabad (12713), Secunderabad-Vijayawada (12714), and Guntur-Secunderabad (17201).

Hyderabad rain: Trains Diverted

To manage the situation, many trains were diverted. The Visakhapatnam-Nanded route was adjusted, skipping all stops between Eluru and Secunderabad. Similarly, the Visakhapatnam-Tirupati train bypassed all stops between Vijayawada and Secunderabad.
