Hyderabad: Techie falls to death into water tank in PG hostel in Gachibowli, video goes viral

In Hyderabad, an IT professional tragically lost his life when he accidentally fell into an open water sump within a private hostel located in Raidurg. The owner of the property had taken off the sump's lid in order to fill water, a TOI report stated.

As per the Raidurgam police, a 25-year-old man named Shaik Akmal Sufuyan, who resided at Shanmukh Men's PG hostel in Anjaiah Nagar, Gachibowli, went out for errands on a Sunday morning. Upon his return to the hostel, he opened the gate without realizing that the sump lid was absent. Shortly after, he accidentally slipped into the sump and tragically lost his life.

The complete incident was recorded on the hostel CCTV.


"While the hostel owner K Madhusudhan Reddy was standing just a few feet away with his child and wife, he failed to notice Shaik as he was facing the other side," said a police official.

The software employee, who was employed at a private firm in the IT corridor, had shifted to the accommodation two months prior. He hailed from Khammam district.

"On hearing a thud sound, Madhusudhan rushed to the sump and checked what happened but, initially, failed to understand. He then saw some bananas on the floor. Becoming suspicious, Madhusudhan verified the CCTV footage at the property and realised that a hostel resident had fallen into it," said Raiduram sub-inspector, V Srinivas.

When Shaik was rescued and taken to the hospital, he had already passed away.

Police have filed a criminal case against the hostel owner under Section 304 a (negligence causing death) of the IPC.
